1. Analysis -- what specifically does the person do well in analyzing? I thought Lydia did a good job in analyzing the diction of the poem and interpreting the specific poems. She also does a good job analyzing the tone (sarcastic). 2. Analysis -- if the person had to do this again, what would you recommend in analysis? I would recommend you also analyze the poetic devices..I noticed some internal rhyme, alliteration..it would have been great to see more analysis on that. 3. What is something you found surprising? or amusing? I thought the little animation of the poem was the most interesting. the fast-paced nature of the reading conveyed the sarcasm almost in a deadpan manner. 4. What is something you don't understand or find confusing? I didn't quite understand the connection between her first interpretation of the poem's theme as "suicide" and the latter theme about the "social ladder." 5. Comment on the visual portion of this video. I think the screencast could have also had a few images every once in awhile. It would also have been helpful to see the poem as a whole that way we can interpret the poem.

I tried to be as detailed and specific as possible. I tried to look at every word.

I should analyze more with literary aspects but couldn’t due to the time restraint. I should be more clear and have a stronger stance.

I didn’t think i could connect it to social ladder.

While doing it, it was confusing to actually make it sound like the poem is about the social ladder.

I could have added more pictures and not just talk through the whole video since it will make some people a bit drowsy.

While making the video, I had a hard time organizing and finding a way to portray the poem. I used a picture to show the man because I thought that it made the poem less about suicide and more on the social ladder.

Both The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Prince and the Pauper, by Mark Twain, portray that a leader is not made but born with the characteristics. However, these characteristics are, most of the time, influenced by the people around. Mark Twain wants us to understand an important message through these books: there is no such thing as a good leader, just leaders who are perceived as good. There is a very thin line between a corrupt leader and a good leader.This can be seen through his own experiences and experiences of other people.
Mark Twain was a leader himself. Born as the sixth child our of seven, he was considered one of the younger kids in his family. However, this soon changed after countless accidents. Suddenly he was the oldest among three siblings. This came as a big responsibility for Mark. How was he supposed to take care of his siblings when he himself is just a young child. Growing up, Mark experienced what it felt like being a leader. Later in life he was out partying with leaders from different places. Being exposed to different leaders created a new Mark. He started to notice that not all leaders are good. Most leaders are corrupt and run things according to their greed. Then again, there are leaders who just does everything the citizen asks for, especially the rich. Mark did not approve of this. He did not like how leaders, who can turn out to be terrific leaders, are pressured by people to be a leader with no say. Leaders are born with characteristics and then there are leaders who are just born. Mark Twain wants to emphasize that good leaders are leaders who are born with the characteristics but at the same time, know when to listen to the people and when to make their own decisions.
The term “good leader” changes with time and conditions. A good leader 1000 years ago was someone who was probably the best hunter. However, a good leader today is someone who “influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent” (Concepts of Leadership). “Leadership differs in that it makes the followers want to achieve high goals, rather than simply bossing people around.” This is key for leaders to understand. So many leaders today cannot grasp the difference between being a boss and a leader. Take Tom for example. Tom is a great influence on people, although it is used in a bad way. He can influence anyone to do anything for him. We can see him in action when he tries to persuade Ben into whitewashing fences with him. "Like it? Well, I don't see why I oughtn't to like it. Does a boy get a chance to whitewash a fence every day?" Tom does not boss anyone here. Tom is just being Tom yet he is able to persuade Ben with just a few words. This is a kid who is born with the characteristics needed to be a good leader.
Tom then strikes again and persuades Becky to be engaged with him. Once again, force is not used, instead words. A leader needs to be good with his or her speech in order to persuade anyone into doing anything. Mark used this trait of Tom to emphasize that people are born with characteristics. But these leadership qualities are often but to wrong uses, such as Tom and his pranks. Then there are leaders who are born with no characteristics at all.
Tom Canty was a pauper. However, fate turned his life around when he found himself in the prince’s shoes. Tom Canty was born with no characteristics of a leader. He had no leadership qualities that can be found. He was not influential, nor was he a good talker. However, he is liked because he cooperates with the people. Since he as no idea of what is going on, he just agrees to everything said around him.
The Prince, on the other hand, is born with characteristics that define him as a real leader.
