I. Introduction
*(ROUGH) Throughout the history of humanity, human beings have always desired to achieve the impossible, in other words, imitate what God has done. They’ve tried to make gold out of simple chemicals they have by creating the field of alchemy, manipulate nature for their own good, and even gain the power of controlling childbirth. However, such approaches to God’s territory had always been questioned for its possibilities, risks, and morality. Marry Shelly reveals her personal thoughts on how she thinks science can be defiant to God through her novel Frankenstein. By narrating Victor’s entrance to God’s territory of childbirth, Shelly reflects the fall of humanity and how the society will be destined to doom by science. Victor’s abysmal downfall reminded me of other mythical stories such as Promethean and Lucifer, who both were punished for trying to reach the power of God. Therefore, Frankenstein definitely has a strong link with religion. Its relationship, along with the society, is expressed to us through Mary Shelly’s eyes in the book.
